As We Seek Justice Remember That Words Have Impact

Calls for violence against perpetrators ,and jokes about them being raped or assaulted contribute to rape culture. These comments perpetuate the notion that rape is somehow an acceptable punishment for real or perceived behaviors or logical consequence of certain actions.

Last Friday, Netflix released its new documentary Audrie & Daisy which investigates two cases of sexual assault at two different U.S. high schools. We watched “Audrie & Daisy” this week and here are our thoughts about what we think, we as society can learn from the film.

Alcohol is never an excuse to commit a crime.  As Dr.Gail Stern, Catharsis Productions co-founder, said: “In terms of responsibility, I’m responsible for what I do when I’m drinking, I am not responsible what other people choose to do to me when I’m drinking.”
